Coorparoo was the first of the new parishes established by Catholic Archbishop James Duhig. He invited the Loretto Order of nuns to establish its first Queensland school in the parish. Despite the Great Depression, fundraising through lottery tickets enabled Loretto College to open in 1931, with the completion of the ‘Casket Building’ by builder S. Carrick. The College was the first Brisbane Catholic boarding school established under Duhig. Other significant College stuctures are the 1954 Administration Building and the 1977 Gonzaga Barry Centre.
