Information

The Australian Women’s Army Service Camp operated during the Pacific War (1942-1945) for single or widowed women who undertook military service as stenographers, telegraphists, switchboard operators and typists for the Advanced Land Headquarters (located at the St. Lucia campus of the University of Queensland). Originally there were 318 women housed in twelve sleeping huts, but the camp was enlarged to accommodate over 460 women.
