Initially built as a large suburban home for Herbert and Gertrude Lyon, it became a doctor’s house and local clinic four years later. Dr Anthony St. Ledger bought the property in 1925, where he established his practice that was run with the aid of his wife Kathleen. They operated the Balmoral Clinic until just after WWII. In the 1950s, the house was sold and subdivided into flats to meet the shortage of accommodation affected by the postwar migration. The doctor’s surgery was not lost to flats and it remained in operation at the front of the house. It has been a local health clinic for nearly 100 years.
