The existence of the Balmoral Show reflected the agricultural nature of the Shire of Balmoral, which stretched from Bulimba to the western boundary of Wynnum during the early 20th century. Prizes were awarded in competitions for horses and sulkies, needle and fancy work, farm produce, dairy produce, fruit, vegetables, artisan and amateur work, cookery, poultry, bantams and pigeons. The last show was held in 1926, shortly after the Shire of Balmoral was amalgamated into the newly-formed Greater Brisbane, a time when suburban settlement was also increasing in the local area.
