Local resident and Russian immigrant Yefim Shishkoff donated a block of his land for this church site. Yefim’s gesture was made as a sign of his gratitude to Australia for giving him the freedom to practice religion that had been denied him in the U.S.S.R. A simple timber and tin church was completed by 1956 and dedicated by Bishop Sawa. The Brisbane City Council ran a special bus to transport participants to this decication ceremony. As the congregation grew, a new brick church was commenced in the adjoining block in 1982.
