Information

The Boomerang Theatre opened on 10 December 1924, at the height of the silent movie era. The introduction of ‘talkies’ led to a new sound system being installed there in 1928. The original building was then redesigned in 1933 to an Art Deco style by architect Archibald Tathan Longland. The roof was also raised up at this time to permit the installation of a dress circle. A further refurbishment was undertaken in 1953. The Boomerang Theatre lasted quite a long time by early suburban cinema standards, closing in January 1995 before being demolished in September of that year.
