Information

The Brisbane General Hospital opened in 1867. Its early beginning was not as expected. A small timber built initially as a fever hospital, but not used as such, was the Lock Hospital for women detained as, “victims of misfortune and vice”. A new two storey medical hospital was constructed, however, originally with four wards.
