Information

Coorparoo and surrounding suburbs had developed rapidly during the 1920s due to the proliferation of housing estaes. The residents needed community infrastructure such as sporting facilities. The Coorparoo Bowls Club opened after its first green was laid, on this site, in 1930. A two-storied, timber clubhouse, constructed by builder W. Ewart followed in the same year. In 1931, a second green was laid. That these three projects were undertaken in early years of the Great Depression (1929-39) provided not only community facilties but also much needed employment in the local area.
