Information

Built 1892, the architect was Henry Atkinson. Coorparoo Shire Council was proclaimed on 28 October 1888. Council occupied the Hall from 1892 to 1925, when the Shire was amalgamated into the Greater Brisbane City Council. A Coorparoo School of Arts Trust was then established. It bought the Hall in 1928. In 1930, the School of Arts gained a side verandah through a work donation from the Avondale Lodge. The large stage was removed in 1938. Brick and stucco addidions to the facade were made in 1953. In 1946, the BCC demanded monies still owing from 1928. In 1956, the R.S.S.A.I.L.A. offered to take the debt and Hall. It was renamed the Coorparoo School of Arts and R.S.L. Memorial Hall. A World War I Honour Roll had been mounted in the Hall in 1916. It has wide community use, including as the local kindergarten.
