Information

Began in 1893 as the Diamantina Orphanage, it became a mental patients home in 1893. In 1898, it returned to use as a boy’s reformantory. In 1901, it beccame the Diamantina Chronic Disease Hospital, later specalising in epilisy, consumption and cancer. Pharmacist’s house finished in 1909. Continued as hospital through WWII until 1956, when a new hospital opened onsite. Named Princess Alexandra (P.A.) Hospital in 1960. Residence is now the ‘Diamantina Healthcare Museum’. One of two Diamantina Hospital remnants saved when this hospital was demolished (1952-56).
