Ebling’s Shop was built in 1930. Hans Elbing built this shop with upstairs residence, with the groundfloor for lease, while he lived upstairs. Elbing chose a strategic site, at the corner of Aubigny Street and fronting the busy Ipswich Road tramline. He demolished an earlier shop/house and replaced it with this building, as it reflected Annerley’s changing status, as a well-settled interwar suburb. Elbing sold this site in 1949 and the upstairs was converted into flats to meet Brisbane’s expanding population.
