Built 1905, the architect was Richard Gailey. This was the first Roman Catholic Church to be constructed in the Wynnum district. In 1905, the Catholic Archbishop of Brisbane, George Dunne donated 1.5 acres of church land for the building of a permanent place of worship for Wynnum’s Catholics. This reflected the growing strength of the parish with fundraisings held to cover the building costs. The period between Federation (1901) and the first full year of the Great War (1915) saw the construction of a variety of religious buldings in Wynnum, reflecting that area’s progress and prosperity.
