Information

George Edmonstone owned the 18 acre property in the mid-1850s and passed it to his son-in-law John Markwell on his marriage to Georgina Edmonstone. John Markwell had built Moorlands Villa there by 1859. He sold the house to Mrs Mary Mayne who moved into the house in 1879. Mrs Mayne died in 1889 leaving Mary Emelia Mayne, the 4th child, as the custodian of the property. In 1892 Richard Gailey, the highly regarded Brisbane architect, designed a new home which became Moorlands, which was the home of Mary Emelia and James Mayne for 48 years.
