Ironside State School was opened in 1870. It began as a farmer-funded school for the area covering the Indooroopilly Pocket (St Lucia) and Long Pocket farms. The school went under different names in the late nineteenth century, such as ‘Toowong’, “Indooroopilly’, and ‘Indooroopilly Pocket’. It took the name ‘Ironside” from the local area from 1905.
