Information

In the mid-1920s, the Phoenix Buildings were sold to Lebanese migrant George Malouf. Drapers, Malouf’s family (descendant is author David Malouf) and used two shops for ‘Malouf’s Fashion House’. It expanded to incorporate most of the Phoenix Buildings’s shops and became a local landmark. ‘Malouf’s Fashion House’ closed in 1986 and the shops house a variety of businesses. Built 1889-90, the architect was Richard Gailey.
