Information

The Maxam Cheese Factory was established in 1928 by Oliver McAnulty. Canned meat was added to the operation in the early 1940s. At the height of its production the business employed 400 people. The business is noted in Australian law when Kraft sued Maxam, claiming the sole patent for the manufacture of cheddar cheese and the High Court finding in 1930 for Maxam, judging Kraft’s patent to be invalid. The business was purchased in 1947 by Swift (Australia), a meat processing company.
