Information

Moorland Park was used during World War II by the Australian Army as General Blamey’s headquarters. The property was purchased in 1945 by Legacy from the Mayne Family Trust. In the late 1940s, when Legacy was caring for over two thousand children, Moorlands was used as a children’s home for orphans, initially for 35 children, with more accommodation built later. Over 800 children passed through Moorlands during the 23 years that Legacy owned it. The number of children requiring care fell in the 1960s and Moorlands was sold to the Methodist Church in 1973. It became part of the Wesley Hospital complex in 1977.
