Information

John Thomas Phipps was one of the early farmers in this district. He applied for Portions 179 and 180, on 6 December 1869, fulfilling conditions by building rail fences as well as clearing and cultivating 3 acres (1.2 hectares). His Deed of Grant to freehold these 92½ acres (38.2 hectares) was granted in 1878. John Phipps’ community interests included the Cooper’s Plains School committee and the Yeerongpilly Divisional Board in the mid-1880s. He was also committed to the work of the East Moreton Farmers’ Association from its inauguration in February 1886. His farming interests were extended beyond this district as he selected land on the Albert River.
