Pugin Chapel (Old St Stephens Church) was built in 1850, Architect: A.W. Pugin. Constructed just 8 years after the Moreton Bay Penal Settlement’s closure, it was the main Catholic church for 17 years until the cathedral was opened next door. It was commonly called ‘Pugin’s Chapel’ after the its English designer. It is Brisbane’s oldest church building.
