Information

The United States Army Service of Supply camp at Moorooka during WWII had a large recreation hall in which the camp personnel were entertained by well-known US acts such as Artie Shaw and Janet Gaynor. After the war, the hall was purchased by a Mr Hughes, who owned a movie theatre at Annerley. He relocated the large hall to Moorvale, on the corner of Mayfield and Beaudesert roads, and local residents believed that Moorooka was about to get its first movie theatre. However, the shed was instead rented out for various other purposes over several years before the Hughes Shopping Centre was built on the site.
