With the coming of the railway the first Regatta Hotel was built on River Road (Coronation Drive today) by Mr L Healy in 1874-5. By 1887 it had been rebuilt – designed by Richard Gailey, architect, it was built by Mr. George Gazzard for the sum of £4,800 for Mr. William Winterford. The Regatta is still a popular meeting place today.
