The Stephens Sub Branch of the Returned Sailor’s Soldier’s Airmen’s Imperial League of Australia (RSSAILA) started life in a small hall here in 1922, and received its Charter on 2 May 1926. The name of this organisation was changed in 1965 to the Returned Services League of Australia (RSL). Stephens is one of the oldest RSL Sub Branches in Brisbane, and operated from their original red-bricked memorial hall until the late 1990s, when the hall was sold as part of the redevelopment of the neighbouring hotel and then demolished. A new facility was built very close to the original hall and the branch still operates today.
