The church opened in 1919 to serve the growing Catholic congregation in this semi-rural area. The extension of the Moorooka tram line prompted the growth of further housing estates so a Catholic primary school were added to this sitein 1932 and the presbytery was completed by 1935. The school was part of Archbishop Duhig’s plan to ensure Catholic facilities kept pace with Brisbane’s expanding interwar suburbs.
