St Thomas More Secondary College commenced schooling on Wednesday 30th January 1974. The official opening was held on Sunday 3rd March 1974. Prior to the college’s establishment, the land had been in the hands of the Catholic Church. The College was the first Catholic secondary college to be fully administered and staffed by lay teachers, as opposed to being organised by the Catholic orders. In the 1970s St Thomas More College broke new ground in Queensland schooling in the areas of student-centred learning and pastoral care.
