Information

A quartzite and road base quarry on one side of Stephens Mountain was used from the 1880s until the late 1960s. Sourcing road base was an important part of expanding the transport networks of Brisbane and the transition form dirt tracks to more solid roads. In later years the quarry site became something of a playground for children from the surrounding estates and suburbs.
