Information

The “Stephens Shire Local Committee of the Baden-Powell Boy Scouts” met monthly at the Junction Park State School in the early 1920s. Sometime in these years William Stephens made land “near the Ekibin gate of the school,” available for a Scout hall or “den.” The first den on the land was the Chief Scoutmaster Snow’s Kangaroo Point home (15 feet x 8 feet) that was shifted and re-erected. A Girl Guides troop had been established in Tarragindi at this time, and later a new Scout and Guide hall at the Waldheim and View Streets site (there were no streets at the end of Waldheim Street but open paddock down to the creek and on the other side) was opened by Commissioner C. S. Snow, on 7 December 1929. The Junction Park State School rented the hall for half an hour on four days a week for the equivalent of $1 per week.
