The Stewart’s Highway Hotel opened in 1958 as Queensland’s first American-type ‘Motor Hotel’. The concept of the ‘Motel’ was a hotel where the motor vehicle parked just outside the place of accommodation. The site had suites, lounge and dining rooms, beer garden, and a drive-in bottle department.
