Information

Sunnybank State School opened on 27 January 1959 with 104 boys and 95 girls on roll. The school’s five acre site first held a single school block holding five classrooms and a staff room. In 1962 six more classrooms and other administration rooms were added. In 1889, a Reserve of about 7 acres (2.49 hectares), neighbouring the town lots, had been gazetted for State School purposes. During that time of 70 years the Runcorn School operated, about a mile away (straight-line), and was often referred to as the Sunnybank School. We have represented in this site a time when the demand for primary education in a new suburb estates on the outer Brisbane Southside.
