Information

Rocklea was originally named Rocky Waters Holes and a hotel of that name was built on this site in 1874. When the Logan railway reached here in 1884, the area was renamed Rocklea and the 1874 pub changed its name to the Rocklea Hotel in 1885. By 1892, this larger, two-storey building was completed to replace the old hotel. In the 1940s, the Rocklea School of Arts was relocated and rebuilt behind this hotel, This made the hotel site, along with the nearby Crown Hotel, become the community centre for Rocklea. This was reinforced in the 1950s by the building of a shops row, along Ipswich Road, in front of this hotel.
