Information

Built 1889. With the opening of the Wynnum-Manly rail line in 1888, local stonemason George Gibbs saw an opportunity to service the expanding seaside tourist trade. This two-storey pub was given wide-open verandahs that provided sea breezes and scenic views of Moreton Bay for the clientele. The adjoining two-storey public bar was added to the 1889 hotel in the 1920s, so extending the Waterloo Hotel to the corner of Berrima Street and the main thoroughfare of Tingal Road. Like all of Brisbane’s hotels, this pub has undergone numerous interior renovations to reflect the needs of the changing licencees or owners.
