Portion 183 an allotment of 40 acres was selected by Andrew West on 31 August 1872. This land was classed as agricultural and was rented at nine pence an acre. West also leased Portions 181A, 32 acres, and 182A, 46 acres, under the 1868 leasing act. Five payments for this selection had been made but the sixth payment, the balance of twelve shillings and sixpence due, was not paid. This resulted in an inspection of the land by the Bailiff of Crown Lands on 20 July 1877. This report showed that there was no appearance of the land having been occupied, there were no improvements, no stock and the allotment appeared to have been abandoned. On 25 July 1877 this land was then thrown open for further selection at five shillings an acre, an extraordinary increase in those days. This Portion 183 was later selected by Samuel Gillespie.
QSA LAN/AG71-1358 Andrew West applied for Portion 183.
