Information

On the 5th April 1991, vandals destroyed a library and urinated and defecated on Holy Scriptures in a Brisbane Sikh Temple, Gurdwara’, on Logan Road, at Eight Miles Plains. Brisbane Sikh Association president Sqhan Singh Saranah said that the temple might have been mistaken for a mosque, though he would not wish this sort of desecration on any religion. It was the third, and worst, attack on the temple within two months. The vandals had smashed open a security door, wrenched books from library, shelves and thrown about cooking oil. Some scripture books which were destroyed would cost about $1000 to replace, and take time to obtain from India. Sikhism is a monotheistic religion founded in the Punjab (India) in the 15th century. It emphasised faith and meditation on the Name of One Creator, often through song, duty and selfless service. It is seen as a merging of Hindu and Muslim theology.
