Information
Built 1942, Outbreak of Pacific War (8 December 1941) led the Queensland Government to issue Protection of Persons and Property Order No.1 (23 December 1941) and Order No.1b (23 March 1942) to compel private property owners to build shelters if they had 30, then 15 or more persons onsite. Council Architect Frank Costello designed shelters and Council Inspectors oversaw construction. This shelter served the Acacia Ridge quarry but was also open to the local community. It was completed by June 1942 and Brisbane air raid shelter construction ceased in 1943. Postwar, it was used as a storage shed. With the flooding of the quarry, this shelter is now underwater.
