Information
King George Chambers façade was built in 1927, Architects: Hennessey, Hennessey, Keesing & Co. It was constructed for Peter Murphy and mirrored his ‘King Edward Chambers’ building in Fortitude Valley. It was unique, in that it was built to fit the curve in the road caused by the intersection of George and Roma Strets. After 2007, it was largely demolished for a highrise development, with only the facade retained. This is a return to the ‘facadism’ approach to heritage of the Bjelke-Petersen era.
