Waterholes around the Norman Creek have been dangerous to small children in age before swimming skills were regularly taught. In January 1890, four little boys, on their way home from the Thompson Estate School perished in a waterhole. This waterhole was in floodplain of the Thompson Estate. The Junction Park State School used a waterhole in Toohey’s paddock to teach swimming Later a dammed part of Ekibin Creek was utilised. The latter proved dangerous when a case of typhoid appeared and the school was then required to travel to the Peel Street Baths, in South Brisbane, twice a week.
