Information
The area that became Richlands was subdivided into small blocks during the early 1930s, and up to thirty families moved in, initially living in tents and shacks. The area had no connected water, electricity, public transport, shops or surfaced roads, and the few children there had to walk several kilometres to the nearest school at Darra. As the local population grew, residents campaigned for a school on the estate, which duly opened with one teacher in June 1934. The opening day enrolment was 26 pupils, which soon grew to 42. The school eventually closed in December 2010 and the children moved to neighbouring schools.
