Information
Royal Bank of Queensland was built in 1885, Architect: R. Gailey. It was constructed as a bank branch to serve intrastae travellers arriving at Roma Street Station and workers from the nearby railyards and the Markets. The Royal Bank of Queensland merged with the Bank of North Queensland in 1917 to form the Bank of Queensland (B.O.Q). This branch was closed but, in 1960, this building was bought by the Australia and New Zealand Bank and it remained an A.N.Z. branch until 1975. The bank vaults survive in the basement.
