Built 1914, the architect was Walter Taylor. With a post-Federation population boom in Sherwood-Oxley, a new Methodist Church was built on 60 perches beside busy Sherwood Road. The foundation stone was laid on 13 June 1914. It opened in September 1914, soon after the start (1 August) of World War I. The Church was unusual as it was built with reinforced concrete. It became a wartime place of comfort for local families, who lost kin. In 1918, before War’s end, a Sunday School hall was built onsite. It was extended in 1933. A church tower was to be added in 1947 but it could not be funded. After the amalgamation of the Methodist, Presbyterian and Congregational churches in 1977, it became the Sberwood Uniting Church.
