Information
A reserve was declared for a cemetery in Toowong in 1860, but there was some reluctance to use the new cemetery. The Toowong Cemetery opened when Governor Blackall was buried at this location on 3 January 1871 after his unexpected and rapid ill-heath and death. The Botanic Gardens and the Acclimatisation Society both provided trees for shading and ornamentation. Four years before the cemetery was officially opened.
