Information
Built 1852. This farmhouse was built for Dr Stephen Simpson for his 640-acre cattle and horse station that was beside the Brisbane River. Horse riding accidents claimed future residents John Ommaney (1856) and Jem Grindle (1940s).’Wolston Estate’ was named after Simpson’s hometown in Warrickshire. Mathew Goggs bought the farm in 1860. Sold to the Grindle family in 1906, it was converted to a dairy that sent milk to Brisbane until 1930s. Farmer Bert Hurley obtained the dairy in 1956, He later sold it to the state government, which donated the dilapidated farmhouse and a small curtilage to the National Trust, in 1963. It is the oldest, extant farmhouse in the district.
