Built 1885-87. To aid migration, the Queensland colonial government decided to build a 500-person settling-in depot, near the river, at Kangaroo Point. The two storey building held family wards on the top floor and separate single women and men’s wards on ground level. Opened in 1887, Yungabah took an initial 299 migrants from the S.S. Duke of Buccleigh. Other uses included as a food and clothing relief store during the Great Depression (1929-39) and the WWII 112th Army General Hospital (1939-42). Sold off by the state government, it is now private apartments.
