The Brisbane Theosophical Society purchased the property in 1925. It had previously been owned by Joseph Buckle (1885-1910), a Primitive Methodist minister, and by Dr Espie Dods (1910-1925), as medical clinic.

Impact on Brisbane Society

Although the history has been poorly attended upon, the Theosophical Society did have a significant place among Brisbane’s cultural and religious beliefs. Its most significant global founders, Helena Blavatsky and Annie Besant, were very influential figures in the sphere of late nineteenth century and early twentieth century socialist, mystic, and peace movements.
