Information

The area’s Anglican community had outgrown its old, small timber church and with the 1920s economic boom, fundraising enabled a larger church to be built as a replacement. This timber place of worship, with its distinctive bell tower and spire was completed in 1924 . It was named as the ‘Church of the Ascension’ and it was dedicated to the Fallen of WWI. It became a familiar local landmark. A contemporay of ‘Iglesia Adventita Espana’, it was placed further along Wynnum Road, where it too drew the attention of the holidaymakers travelling to Wynnum/Manly.
