One of the most influential figures to come out of Emmanuel College was Reverend Professor Norman Barker. Barker attended the Theological Hall in 1952. He pursued studies in Arts and Divinity at the University of Queensland. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1954, received his Diploma in Commerce in 1955, and subsequently was awarded a Bachelor of Divinity (Honours) degree in 1959. He was appointed Professor of Biblical Studies in the Queensland Presbyterian Theological College (1980 to 1993) and served as Principal of the Theological College from 1981 to 1994, working closely with Acting Principal Laurie Davies and Principal Angus Edmonds.

Barker contributed book reviews for the Evangelical Review of Theology and contributed a chapter, ‘Preaching in the Acts of the Apostles’, and a Festschrift for Rev Professor Tom Wilkinson, edited by Dr Stewart Gill.
